The Jury

For the seventh round of the Nordic Cleantech Open, we are joined by a prominent set of jury members, all  with extensive cleantech experience and knowledge. The jury members come from companies, such as Inven Capital, Siemens Gamesa, Finindus, Dow Chemicals, BASF, Bosch Ventures, Encevo, Luxinnovation, SABIC Ventures, E.ON, and Conduit Ventures.

Petr Míkovec

Managing Director,  Inven Capital

Petr Míkovec is Managing  Director, Chairman of the Board of Directors and co-founder of INVEN CAPITAL, fully employed from May 2014. Petr is responsible for overall fund strategy,  deal sourcing, investment process and portfolio value enhancement. Petr was directly responsible for successful completion of investments into sonnen, tado° and Cloud&Heat technologies where he serves as Advisory Board Member. In addition to that Petr  represents INVEN  at Corporate Club of ETF (Environmental Technologies Fund based in London). Petr has gained over 10 years of experience in Energy sector and over 5 year in Investment Banking. Prior to joining INVEN, Petr worked at various positions at CEZ a.s. where he as Corporate Development Director implemented updated  strategy of the CEZ group, scenario approach to  valuation and supervised/led valuations of large investments and divestments in the company (100 million  – 1 billion EUR transactions). Prior to his Energy career, Petr worked as  a Head of Online Business at Patria Finance (leading investment bank in CZ, member of KBC Group), where Petr turned firms Patria Online and Patria Direct to profit position in two years. In addition to that Petr implemented strategic management reporting which delineated the profitability of the firms Strategic Business Units. Petr holds a Master’s Degree in Finance and Managerial Information Systems at University of Economics in Prague. As a best student with highest GPA in the class completed four month Professional Diploma Program in Business administration  as well as four month International Internship program as equity analyst at Technovision management fund  (hedge fund based in Los Altos Silicon Valley) both at UC Berkeley XT (California).

Viktor Miškovský

Investment Director,  Inven Capital

Viktor Miškovský is an Investment Director and Member of the Board of  Directors at  INVEN,  joining  the  team in May 2016. Viktor is responsible for sourcing new deals, deal execution as well as for portfolio management. Prior to joining INVEN, Viktor held several senior management  positions and served as a  Board member of large corporations as well as smaller enterprises. After almost 7 years with Arthur Andersen (one of the leading audit/consulting companies) where he gained extensive experience in audit, valuations and business consulting and led several projects for large M&A transaction,  he became responsible for managing of the central European investments of National Fuel Gas, US and then led the following successful sale process. As a general director and  Chairman of the  Board of ZČE (Czech electricity distribution company with more than 1 thousand employees), Viktor  was responsible for day-to-day operations and following restructuring of assets worth more than EUR 300m. At Wikov Group, Viktor served as a  General  Director of a subsidiary responsible for development and introduction of a new wind turbine technology using state-of-the-art solutions developed within the group. Viktor holds a Master‘s Degree in Chemistry from the University of Chemical technology in Prague, including one year scholarship at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. During his time at Arthur Andersen he also completed the Professional certification at the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in Glasgow (ACCA).

Hans Maenhout

After graduating from the university of Ghent as a Chemical Engineer in 1992, Hans started working for Texaco in R&D. Following a number of different assignments, including 3.5 years in the USA, an M&A project initiated a move into the financial services industry (KBC Group) and led to a longer term transition management role in one of the portfolio investment companies of the KBC group. Hans joined a JV of the ArcelorMittal group and the Flemish Region in 2007 to head up a greenfield startup company active in structural lightweight sandwich panels. After the sale of the company, he was mainly involved in M&A projects within the petroleum and energy industry. Hans joined Finindus in 2013 as Investment Director.

Georges Schaaf

Georges Schaaf joined Luxinnovation as Head of Sector Development Cleantech in October 2016. Georges holds a Master of Arts in International Business from De Montfort University, Leicester, UK, and a Diplom- Wirtschaftsingenieur from Technische Universität Kaiserslautern, Germany. Georges has held senior positions in leading Luxembourg companies such as Head of Marketing & Sales for SkyCom Sàrl, and General Manager for Domaines Vinsmoselle SC. He was working for Villeroy & Boch and Coca-Cola and is a confirmed business consultant with over 25 years of experience overseeing operations, projects and business service. In his current role, Georges’s main goal is to promote and develop two of the key sectors of Luxembourg’s economy:  cleantech and manufacturing technologies.

Nicolas is in charge of the venture capital activities across Europe for the Encevo Group, a regional utility group headquartered in Luxembourg. The Encevo Group is essentially composed of energy provider Enovos and grid operator Creos, who both have subsidiaries and participations. Prior to joining the Encevo Group, he has spent five years in an IT focused investment banking boutique where he was an investment director for the venture capital arm managing a pan-European fund. On side of the venture capital experience, Nicolas had gained 10 years’ experience in cross border M&A operations (small to mid-caps) across all sectors, including but not limited to ICT, Real Estate and Financial Services sectors. Within this scope, he assisted a number of PE/VC investors to execute their initial investments as well as subsequent buy & build strategies.

Peter is investment manager at Solvay Ventures the venture capital arm of the Solvay Group, a global leader in specialty chemicals and advanced materials. Established in 2004, with offices in Brussels, Paris, San Francisco, Boston and Shanghai, Solvay Ventures has over $100m assets under management. Managing a portfolio of funds and direct investments to support the Group’s innovation efforts. In addition to providing capital to start-up companies, Solvay Ventures leverages Solvay capabilities and network to generate business synergies and partnerships between the start-ups and Solvay’s BUs and Innovation Platforms. Prior to joining Solvay, Peter worked at a startup company active in the field of photovoltaics. Peter has obtained an MBA from Vlerick Business School and holds both an engineering degree and a PhD in Physics from IMEC.

Michael Wamsler

Manager Future Concepts, Tetra Pak Packaging Solutions

Michael is among other tasks responsible for Future Base Materials, which to a large part concerns sustainable materials for future packaging material structures and concepts. Previous to this position he has held positions within Tetra Pak as responsible for Packaging Material Design, Advanced Films and Barriers and Coating & Lamination. The main interests are food approved renewable and/or recyclable materials such as barriers, adhesives and sealing layers. Before Tetra Pak, Michael has experience as Head of Engineering, Energy Efficiency in ÅF-Processdesign, and as Product Development Manager for Water Treatment at Kemira Kemwater.  

Erik Karlsson

Erik works as Investment Manager at H&M CO:LAB, which is the investment arm of the H&M Group. Erik has a background in Environmental Engineering and before joining the CO:LAB team worked as Project Manager at the H&M Sustainability department where he focused on LCA, development of sustainable materials and supply chain transparency. Of particular interest to H&M CO:LAB are investments in circular and sustainably sourced fibers, materials and processes used in the apparel, footwear and accessories supply chain as well as innovative, sustainable, businesses that will help the H&M Group reach its ambitious sustainability goals.

Lin Na joined Invest in Skåne as an Investment Advisor in May 2017. Her role is to identify investment opportunities for international corporates and financial institutes within cleantech in Region Skåne. Her focused industries include renewable energy, sustainable mobility, waste and water, as well as advanced material. Prior to Invest in Skåne, Lin Na was the Cleantech Investment Manager of Invest in Denmark, Shanghai office. She has also worked on cleantech innovation and climate change policy development in China. Lin Na holds a Master degree on Environmental Science, Policy and Management from Lund University.

Investment Manager, Evonik Venture Capital

Jens Busse is an Investment Manager at Evonik Venture Capital. Prior to joining the team, Jens was heading the Growthline Upstream Solutions within CREAVIS, the strategic innovation unit of Evonik Industries. Jens and his team focused on different innovation topics in the search field areas Hydrogen Solutions, Gas Separation and Membranes. From 2001 to 2009 he worked as Project Manager within the Process Technology department of Evonik Industries. In this time the main focus of his work was operator training simulation and energy optimization of chemical sites. After studying mechanical engineering and process technology at the Ruhr University of Bochum, he earned his PhD in process synthesis.

Sara Hamlin works as Innovation Business Developer within Future Energy Solutions at E.ON Sverige AB. She is Head of E.ON´s accelerator :agile, https://www.eon.se/agile, which support start-ups that develop smart solutions for the future of energy and sustainability.

Tore Sveälv is an Investment Manager and Business Development Manager at GU Ventures AB, having the mission to commercialize new high-tech inventions for a better tomorrow. Tore joined GU Ventures in April 2010. He has a broad international experience within the area of blue biotechnology, cleantech and life science. He has previously served as the Chief Executive Officer at Food and Health Concept Center in Gothenburg. He has also been the Chief Executive Officer at the Institute of Aquaculture Research in Norway and Business Unit Manager at Chromogenix AB. Tore holds a Ph.Lic. in Biology from Oslo University, and is educated in Corporate Management at IFL in Stockholm.

Dirk Noordegraaf graduated in 1978 from the University of Groningen (The Netherlands)  with a degree in Polymer Science. He has held positions as researcher at University of Twente, at Wavin and at Nijverdal ten Cate. He joined SABIC Innovative Plastics Europe in 1989. Within SABIC Innovative Plastics he has fulfilled various technical roles in the Application Technology department and commercial roles in the Automotive Marketing department. His current job is Senior Manager Technology in the Technology Identification & Acquisition (TI&A) within SABIC responsible for the identification of non-proven technology assets. Dirk Noordegraaf is based in SABIC’s Innovative Plastics BU Europe headquarters in Bergen op Zoom, The Netherlands.

Richard Riggs

Richard Riggs is a corporate VC at Saudi Aramco Energy Ventures, the corporate venturing subsidiary of Aramco, the Saudi Arabian national oil company. Previously Richard has been with BASF Venture Capital as an Investment Manager since 2012. When joining BASF in 2006 he was initially leading scientific projects in the areas of crop protection and performance chemicals. Prior to this he worked in the care chemicals division at Ciba Specialty Chemicals. Richard’s Doctorate degree in chemistry is from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland.

Andreas Stubelius is the Portfolio Manager at the Swedish Energy Agency. He has more than 15 years’ experience within the Energy field and holds a degree in Energy engineering and corporate finance. Andreas is a member of the Cleantech 100 expert panel and also a member of the Nordic Cleantech Open jury. His portfolio consists of more than 70 Cleantech start-ups.

Heribert Uhl

Heribert Uhl is Senior Investment Director at RBVC. He is responsible for investments in the areas of energy & environment. Heribert has been with the Bosch group since 1999 and has a profound system understanding of the automotive industry. His previous role at Bosch he was responsible for vehicle management and safety systems. Prior to joining Bosch, he spent four years projecting and developing automotive interior panels at the Dräxlmeier Group. Heribert holds a Diploma degree in Mechatronics from the University of Applied Science in Esslingen, Germany.

Michael Nettersheim joined BASF Venture Capital in August 2011. In his previous position he was a member of the invest management at High-Tech Gruenderfonds in Bonn. Prior to this he was responsible for corporate finance and investor relations at a publicly listed biotech company in Munich. Michael studied Chemistry at the University of Bonn and was awarded a doctorate in the field of Biochemistry. He holds an MBA from the Kellogg-WHU Executive MBA Program. He is also a Certified Biotech Analyst for the German Association of Financial Analysis and Asset Management (DVFA).

Ludwig Goris obtained a Master in Chemistry from Ghent University and completed his PhD in Physics at Hasselt University in 2006. Ludwig has obtained an Executive Master’s degree in Corporate Finance from Vlerick Business School. After successive post-doctoral positions at Stanford and Hasselt University, he became Investment Associate with the Cleantech Investment Practice of Capricorn Venture Partners. In 2013 he took on the role Investment Manager. In that capacity, he follows up the portfolio of the Capricorn Cleantech Fund through various board director and observer roles. He is also Investment Manager at the Capricorn Sustainable Chemistry Fund. He has a particular interest in agricultural, resource and chemical technologies, including advanced digitization to increase performance, efficiency and yield. His application fields of interest are specialty chemicals, food, feed and fibers and materials.

CTI invests in early-stage cleantech ventures in the Nordic area, with investment focus being smart energy and clean environment. Since 2014 CTI shares are traded at Nasdaq OMX First North Helsinki.

Daniel Kaufman is a circular economy and sharing economy specialist. Daniel works with the revenue models of different-sized companies and challenges society to make systemic change – how can we decouple well-being and economic growth from natural resource use and increased emissions? Daniel has several years of experience in management consulting. He has also been involved in founding start-up companies in Finland and Colombia and he has studied in Argentina and Costa Rica. In his projects Daniel has studied circular economy business models, defined corporate strategies and new operating models, used service design to create new ways of operating in the public sector, sparred start-ups and lectured on competitive advantage or carbon handprints. Daniel has a master’s degree in creative sustainability from Aalto University.

Linda Zheng is the General Manager of Conduit Ventures in China. Main responsibilities include investment transaction, portfolio management and tech transfer projects cross borders. Conduit Ventures China has been successful in providing one stop services for western technology companies setting up operations in China. Conduit clean energy innovation centers in Shanghai, Nanjing and Chongqing was set up under her leadership with funding supports from UNEP/ADB. Linda has oversight for the administrative and operational aspects of the UK and China activities. Her background includes experience of China, Brazil, South Africa, the Middle East and Turkey having worked with PWC, Barclays plc and Aviva with P&L responsibility on various venture projects. B.Sc. Joost Waeterloos

Joost is member of the Scouting & Exploration Network in Dow’s Ventures and Business Development group. In this role, Joost is leading the European scouting efforts involving the researching and evaluation of technologies and opportunities that complement Dow’s robust Research & Development pipeline and contribute to the Company’s long-term success. His career with Dow started in 1998. He has been active in R&D, technical service, sales and commercial functions in the U.S., Europe and Asia Pacific regions. He joined V&BD in 2006 with a primary focus on exploration project analysis and technology scouting. Since 2009 he is leading the corporate technology scouting activities in Europe. He earned two engineering master degrees and a Ph.D. in Applied Science from the University of Leuven. He has published over 50 journal and conference papers and authored a book chapter.

Mikael is responsible for technology and investments in the biorefinery area within Stora Enso. The Biorefinery team  exploits opportunities in new non-food based biomaterials and chemicals. With a long experience in a variety of biomass conversions and bioenergy as well as sales and purchasing of products and inputs to the forest products sector Mikael is eager to analyze and learn and support the business development of new cleantech cases.

Per has been a Venture Partner at ETF since inception. Based in Stockholm, he sources new investments in the Nordic region as well as helping our existing portfolio companies grow. Before ETF, Per ran GE-s business across the Nordic region and the Baltic States. Per has also worked at Motorola Semiconductor Europe, where he held various senior positions in Sweden, UK, Germany, and Switzerland.

Mimmi Hedelin joined Industrifonden in 2015 as an Investment Manager. Prior to Industrifonden, Mimmi was the CEO and co-founder of Power Supply Partner, a clean-tech company working with renewable energy. She has also worked as a management consultant at EY and then with M&A, strategy, corporate ventures and business development at DONG Energy in Copenhagen.

Innovation Director – Europe & Middle East, EDF

Valery started his career at EDF, focusing mostly on R&D related to generation (nuclear and fossil) and distribution. As his interests evolved towards international collaboration and leverage, he became one of the founders of NUGENIA, an integrated framework for Nuclear R&D. Valery spent eight years working in the USA. Most recently he undertook the post of Innovation Director for North America serving the whole EDF Group. Valery is now back in Paris with the same position for Europe and the Middle East. Apart from many other assignments he also tried to move the lines by being active in politics, as mayor of a French village for six years. Valery is a graduate of ESPCI Paris cum laude.

Ulf Bojö

Senior Investment Manager, NEFCO

Mr Bojö is Senior Investment Manager at the Nordic Environment Finance Corporation, NEFCO, an international financial institution created by the five Nordic countries. His responsibilities cover cleantech, energy efficiency and renewable energy deal sourcing, execution and portfolio management. NEFCO offers co-financing of investments mainly in Russia, Ukraine and Belarus providing a positive environmental impact relevant to the Nordic countries. Mr Bojö has previously worked as Sweden’s Representative in EBRD’s Supervisory Board for the venture capital fund Norum, Programme Manager for Sweden’s cooperation with the World Bank and Russia within district heating and Consul at Sweden’s Consulate General in Saint Petersburg.

Stefan Henningsson

Senior Advisor, Climate, Energy & Innovation, WWF

Stefan Henningsson acts as Senior Advisor Climate, Energy & Innovation at WWF in Sweden. In this role he maps climate innovation activity levels in key countries as input to strategic national dialogue between policy makers, investors and business. Focus is to enable faster growth of disruptive cleantech entrepreneurs with solutions taking us faster towards a circular, 100% renewable energy economy with energy access for all. Stefan leads the annual honouring of outstanding, early-stage commerzialised innovations in energy/resource efficiency, digitalisation, renewable energy, climate change mitigation technologies and energy access in China, India, South Africa and the Nordic countries since 2008. Innovations are evaluated on their potential climate change mitigation and/or clean energy access in poor communities potential over the coming ten years. Stefan has overseen and directed approximately 200 such innovation impact evaluations using the climatesolvertool.org. This work engages 30 partner organisations in the innovation ecosystem, 70 distinguished jury members and is communicated through the Climate Solver portal – www.climatesolver.org. Emerging work is also directed towards building a first global cleantech innovation ecosystem of professional accelerators in the climate/energy innovation space in order to improve acceleration performance, connect dots and cleantech deal flow opportunities globally. Stefan also acts as Focal Point for all climate & energy related work on corporate, national/international policy, investor and city engagement for WWF in Sweden and is part of the Leadership Team for WWF Global Climate & Energy Practice (CEP). Global Cleantech Innovation Index maps the strengths and weaknesses in cleantech innovation in 40 countries, incl all G20 countries. Weaknesses that key countries must address in order to further develop their economies whilst contributing more to sustainable development. Stefan has overseen in-depth climate innovation system studies in 10 countries, including China. Stefan is on the Advisory Board for Sustainia 100 since 2013, a publication highlighting 100 of the most inspiring sustainable innovation cases from across the world every year. Stefan is on the advisory board of Sweden’s Green Climate Fund (GCF) Board Membership since 2012. Stefan has been an observer of the international climate change negotiations since 2008 with a focus on mitigation, finance and tech as well as a registered observer of the latest Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report series 2014. Stefan’s specialties are in Climate change, Energy, Innovation systems, Business innovation, Environmental Management in business, Government regulations on climate and energy, ecodesign, environmentally sound product development and general sustainability. Stefan is based in Stockholm and provides a range of climate policy expertise and inputs to reports for WWF such as Reinventing the City – Three prerequisites for greening urban infrastructures, The Energy Report – 100% Renewable Energy World By 2050 and Financial Vehicles – Driving Private Investments in Climate Innovation. Stefan also engages in Climate Savers http://climatesavers.org, WWF multinational corporate program on climate change and on the issue of multinational corporates setting Science-Based Targets, http://sciencebasedtargets.org/. Over a six year period he was programme manager for Sweden’s SME business development programmes focusing on environmental sustainability as a driver for profit and innovation.  He worked focusing on the Food and Drink Industry at the Environmental Management and Business Research Unit of the University of Hertfordshire, UK from 1998 to 2001 and prior to that he gained his Msc, in Industrial Engineering and Management with a specialisation on Environmental Technology from Linköping University, Sweden (1992-1998).

Magnus Agerström

Chairman, Cleantech Scandinavia

Magnus Agerström is the chairman of Cleantech Scandinavia. With more than 70 investors and industry companies from around the world in a membership network, Cleantech Scandinavia has become one of the most influential actors in the Nordic cleantech space. Before he co-founded Cleantech Scandinavia he co-founded sustainability consultant/software company, Natlikan Sustainability AB, where he was Managing Director for many years and from which he made a successful exit in 2011. Magnus holds a bachelor of Business Administration and has a passion for Environmental Economics. He is convinced that the way we use our economic system will have to be reformed in order for us to solve the big sustainability challenges ahead.
